The Success of South African Poker Pro Raymond Rahme

Raymond Rahme has only achieved world wide recognition in 2007 but he has actually been part of the poker industry for over three decades now. The reason why not a lot of poker enthusiasts knew him in the past was because most of his tournament successes occurred in Africa. He has had a number of achievements as a professional poker player in South Africa but the major achievement of all was when he finished fourth place in the main event of the All African Poker Championship. Such event was considered as the largest and the most popular poker tournament being conducted in Africa. He was lucky to become the fourth placer because it gave him the opportunity to travel to Las Vegas, Nevada for free and it also became his ticket to participate in the main event of the 2007 World Series of Poker tournament.

His success in the poker industry did not end there because Raymond Rahme definitely showcased his talent at the 2007 World Series of Poker. Poker professionals and fans witnessed the talent of Raymond Rahme as he made his way to reach the third place spot in the main event. He was able to win the cash prize worth US$3,048,025. Such success just became more remarkable because of the fact that he was the oldest poker player left at the final table.

Such victories experienced by Raymond Rahme allowed him to be considered as the most successful tournament poker player from Africa.

Born in 1945, Raymond Rahme is married with six kids. He, together with his family, resides in Johannesburg, South Africa. Aside from living as a professional poker player in Africa, he was also an owner and operator of a bed and breakfast inn until his retirement.

After his retirement, Raymond Rahme started to have a lot of time to play poker. This was probably the reason why he won in the All African Poker Championship and in the 2007 World Series of Poker. For sure, we will see more of Raymond Rahme now that he can fully concentrate on his poker career.

The latest participation of Raymond Rahme in the poker tournament circuit occurred on January 14, 2008. This was when he became one of the participants of the No Limit Hold'em game of the Crown Aussie Millions Championship tournament. He finished in the money, earning US$18,984.

Because of his retirement, Raymond Rahme does not only have more time to play in live poker events but he has also found time to play poker on the Internet. As a matter of fact, he is one of the members of Team PokerStars and the screen name that he uses is "Ray Rahme."
